Wesleyan Youth Gamelan

No prior experience necessary.
Your child can visit on the first day to try the gamelan--if they like it, sign
them up! The Youth Gamelan Ensemble was founded as a Center for the Arts
program in 2002 by Wesleyan Artist in Residence I.M. Harjito, who guides the
group along with University Professor of Music Sumarsam and Director Joseph
Getter. The ensemble is open to all children ages 7 to 14. The group learns
traditional music from Java, Indonesia, and rehearses Saturday mornings from
10am to 11am during both the fall and spring semesters. Fall classes conclude
with a performance with the Wesleyan Gamelan Ensemble on Thursday, December 5
at 7pm.
