Run for the Fallen

The fourth annual “Run for the Fallen” event in Connecticut is a run to honor all the brave men and women through history who have given their lives so we all can remain free.  There will be a road team that will run one mile for each of the 64 Heroes from CT killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan since 9-11 and the team will end their run at the school.

This year we have the honor of bringing our event to Middletown in hopes that we will have a future home at the Tree of Honor Memorial Park which is being constructed there. We are looking for any and all help with volunteers and sponsors. This year’s event will have a few more expenses than in years past so you’ll see a strong fund raising effort from our team over the next few months.

This year we will be located at the Wilbur Snow Elementary School at 299 Wadsworth St. on Sept. 21. We mapped out an 8 KM route which we will run 8 times for a total of 64 KMs. People can run as many segments as they’d like but they must keep a 10min per mile pace. We will have a police escort in front and in back. Running will begin at 6 AM and end at 2 PM with various other activities at the school. Once again after the runners finish there will be Honor and Remember flag presentations and closing ceremony. The event will be over at 3:30 PM.

This is our 4th year holding our event and we have raised over $20,000 dollars to date for groups such as Wounded Warrior, Purple Heart Homes, The Patriot Guard, and many more. However, fundraising is just a bonus to us, we do this to honor our heroes and their families, dozens of which have attended our past events. We hope that this year in Middletown we reach a whole new level.

Runners, volunteers, and Gold Star families can sign up at www.runforthefallenct.com . We also encourage everyone who wants to join a fund raising team to visit www.crowdrise.com/rftfct2013 You can fund raise for us or for the military based charity of your choice. Please share this event with anyone you think would be interested.

On Flag Day, June 14, 2008, a dedicated team of runners ran across America from Fort Irwin, CA to Arlington National Cemetery, one mile for every Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, and Marine killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. For ten weeks, team members marked each mile with an American flag and signcard in an apolitical reflection of remembrance of each service member.

Each year since the run across America, runners from around the world have joined Run for the Fallen in remembering our fallen. Over 50,000+ participants and over 200,000+ miles have been collectively run in remembrance of those fallen in OIF and OEF.
