Middletown High School Crew Ice Cream Fundraiser

On Thursday, January 9th MHS Crew will be competing against their past record, but it won’t be in the water. It will be by scooping ice cream. A team fundraiser will be held at Cold Stone Creamery from 6-9 P.M.

The team has a goal of raising $1000. In the past they have raised as much as $800 at Cold Stone fundraisers but never in January. The forecast is for a balmy 28 degrees. The team is counting on its alums, who are home from college as well as monetary donations.

All tips collected that evening will go to the team as well as a percentage of the sales. Coach Wendy Sheil has no doubt that her team will meet the goal. “We have a great group of kids and their parents that support the team”. Sheil is an alum of the Middletown High Crew Team.

Middletown High School is one of the few public high schools in Connecticut that has a Crew. Many of its members go on to row in college. Cold Stone’s owner Priscilla Harnesk’s daughter was a member of the Crew Team. She now rows for Iona College.

Monies raised at the fundraiser will go toward replacing equipment. One of their biggest fundraisers, the Haunted Boathouse, has not been held in three years due to weather conditions at the time of the event.  The team is working hard to replace the funds lost.

Harnesk loves to host the Crew fundraiser; “Wendy is the best coach around and the kids are great. They truly work as a team. I’ve hosted other sports teams and they’ve been great but the Crew Team goes over and above, they washed the floors for me!” Harnesk has hired many Crew members because of their strong work ethic.

Should you not be in the mood for an ice cream treat you may put in an order for a cake for up to a year ahead and the team will still receive a percentage of the sale. You may also give a monetary donation.

Come out and support the team!
