Lower
back injuries and conditions affect an estimated 331 million Americans,
and are second only to the common cold as a reason for a visit to the
doctor. Your lower back works hard throughout the day, so it is no
wonder it is so
vulnerable to injury and strain. But you don't need
to feel helpless in the face of lower back pain. The healing path of
yoga can hlep relieve chronic lower back pain, and build and sustain
consistend lower back health.
   In this workshop you will explore
your lower back through yoga postures and energy-moving breathwork. You
will learn gentle,safe movements that stretch tight muscles and
sthrenghten weak ones, techniques for coping with pain flare-ups,
and ways to create natural tone and balance while respection your body's particular conditions and limitations.
  
Open to students of any skill level, and to professionals who wish to
deepen their knowledge of how yoga can promote lower back health. Two Yoga Alliance CEU credits available.

Liz
was on the faculty of the BKS Iyengar Yoga Center of Greater Boston
from 1990 – 2003, and was a Certified Iyengar Instructor for fifteen
years. She now teaches weekly classes in Arlington, Massachusetts at The
Arlington Center for Movement, Meditation and Wellness and at First
Parish Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts and is on the faculty of
Wellesley College. She is co-author of an NIH-funded study at Boston
University Medical Center studying yoga as a healing modality for
depression and anxiety.
