December 20, 2012- Special Olympics Connecticut will host the “coolest” event in Middletown, its annual Penguin Plunge, on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Crystal Lake. Participants will come together to jump into the wintery lake waters and enjoy a festive atmosphere to support Special Olympics. All are invited, including individuals and teams. Preregistration is strongly encouraged and may be done online at www.soct.org. Those interested in participating may also request a registration packet by calling 860-887-1555 or emailing specialolympicsct@soct.org. Check in and day-of-event registration will take place at Polish Falcons Nest 519 on Crystal Lake, 144 Prout Hill Road, beginning at 10 a.m . The Plunge will take place at noon.

This event is one of ten Penguin Plunges for Special Olympics Connecticut that are happening across the state this season, giving many the chance to ban together and brave the cold in bathing suits, team jerseys or creative costumes for a good cause. Incentive prizes and awards will be handed out to top fundraisers and for the best costume, and music and refreshments will be provided. All proceeds will support Special Olympics Connecticut’s year-round sports training programs and competitions that benefit individuals of all ages and all abilities.

Last year, more than 275 Special Olympics supporters took the plunge in Middletown for Special Olympics.
