“Artists Creating Artists” Book Discussion Series with Hedda Kopf at Russell Library

Hedda Kopf will lead a discussion of Stone Arabia by Dana Spiotta on Thursday, November 7 at 7pm in the
Hubbard Room at Russell Library, 123 Broad Street, Middletown.  In this
book discussion series we will explore the way writers/artists represent
the creative process in their novels and memoirs.  Poets, musicians, and graphic artists are
figures in these compelling works that take us back to World War I and forward
to our present time.

Stone Arabia is
“about family, obsession, memory and the urge to create” in our modern, highly
competitive culture.  Spiotta imagines an
alternate life for one of her characters and that imagining explores the
question of who and how does one succeed in the world of art?  The series concludes with a discussion of Fun Home-A Family Tragicomic graphic
memoir by Alison Bechdel on Thursday, December 5.

Hedda Kopf
is an adjunct Associate Professor of Women’s Studies at Quinnipiac University
in Hamden, Connecticut.  She teaches Literature
and Women's Studies. Ms. Kopf has created and facilitated book discussions for
the Connecticut Humanities Council and the Southern Connecticut Library Council
and has led book discussions at Russell Library since 1985.  This series is sponsored by The Friends of
the Russell Library.  The novels will be
available at the checkout desk in the lobby.
