Meet Ryan Kennedy, Republican Common Council Candidate

This five-year member of the Middletown education board says parking issues, bonding limits and setting up a biannual city budget are top priorities for the city.

Middletown Patch's meet-the-candidates series allows voters to learn a little bit about the men and women running for public office this November.

Ryan Kennedy is vying for a spot on Middletown's Common Council.

I am currently finishing my 5th year as a member of the Middletown Board of Education while, chairing the following committees: communications, transportation and have been a regular member of the budget committee.

I have been also lucky enough to serve as a member of the Senior Center Building Committee

I was born, raised and educated in Middletown.and have obtained my Master’s & Bachelor’s Degree in Communication at CCSU.

Below are the issues that I feel are most important in regards to the next Council term, and are the reasons why I am running to serve on the Council.

Parking: The Council needs to make parking in the Melilli lot and Court Street Lot free after 5pm with the gates opening at that time. Two hour free parking needs to be re-instated to all city lots including the lot across from the Russell Library.

Bonding: A super majority vote of the Common Council needs to be required for any bond package.  A yearly debt limit needs to be set, only being allowed to cross by a referendum vote.

Biennial budget: A city budget being set every two years will allow for directors to plan for the future.  The budget should be passed on the even years taking the politics out of the budget process.
