Medical Examiner Has Yet to Name Middletown Woman's Cause of Death

A 32-year-old city resident, Jessica Sanchez, was found dead in between two Middletown buildings in early October and police are still investigating the case as "suspicious."

Nearly three weeks after the body of Jessica Sanchez was discovered in a gritty, isolated industrial complex, officials have yet to release the Middletown woman’s cause of death.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Farmington said it waiting on results of a toxicology review, which is a procedure done to determine whether there were any drugs or chemicals in Sanchez’ system prior to her death.

Workers found Middletown police continue to investigate the case and have yet to rule out a criminal aspect.

"At this point, it’s suspicious, but we are still determining if anything criminal took place,” said Lt. Heather Desmond, Middletown police spokesman.

Police also are waiting for the cause of death to help determine what happened in the investigation.

The toxicology results will take between 3-4 months to come back, meaning the complete ruling on how she died is still pending, the medical examiner’s office said.

In the days following Sanchez’ death family and friends set up a makeshift memorial on the spot where her body was found.
