It's Good Friday in Middletown: What's Closed? Where are Services?

Services are observed by churches around Middletown and we've compiled several below.

 

The Christian Holy Week continues on Good Friday, the day the faithful observe the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary.

City offices, most businesses and banks, the Post Office, the Russell Library, schools, courthouses and the Senior Center are among those places closed Friday in observation.

It is not a federal holiday in the United States, although the Stock Market is closed. In past years, package stores and bars were closed on Good Friday, but not this year in Connecticut.

St. Francis of Assisi Church

• Live Stations of the Cross, 3 p.m.

• Liturgy of the Passion, 6 p.m.

St Pius X Church

  • No Masses today.
  • Morning Prayer at 9 a.m. 
  • Living and Traditional Stations of the Cross at noon
  • Solemn Liturgy of Good Friday at 3 p.m. followed by confessions.
  • Worship 7 p.m.

First Church of Christ, Congregational, 190 Court Street

  • Worship at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Shared with South Congregational Church; special choral music. 

St. John Church

  • No morning Mass
  • Confessions: 6:30-7:30 a.m.
  • Liturgy of the Hours with Divine Mercy Chaplet, 8 a.m.
  • Commemoration of the Lord’s Passion and Death, 3 p.m.
  • Stations and Veneration of the Cross, 7 p.m. (confessions to follow)

First Baptist Church Good Friday Dinners 

  • 11:30 a.m.
