5K Run Draws Hundreds of Runners to Main Street

Citizens road race challenges children, adults, pros and pleasure joggers for 3.1-mile course through Middletown's tree-lined streets.

The Citizens 5K run drew hundreds and hundreds of people downtown Wednesday for a half-mile fun run for children and 3.1-mile race for adults on tree-lined streets near Wesleyan University.

The event, staffed by volunteers from the Middlesex YMCA, Community Health Center, Citizens Bank and many others, raised money for the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce mentor program.

11-year-old Kyle Rodrigues of Middletown, son of Julie Rodrigues of the Downtown Business District, came in first place in the children's fun run. Middletown's Rob Weston, 22, won the 5K. See the winners and times here.
