HOWARD RECOGNIZED AT 100 MEN OF COLOR GALA

 

MIDDLETOWN – Liberty Bank President and CEO Chandler J. Howard was recognized at the 100 Men of Color Gala on September 14 at the Connecticut Science Center. The award recognizes men of color from Springfield, Mass., to Stamford, Conn., who have achieved distinction in their profession or industry, and have made a difference in their community.

“I am honored to have been considered for this award and most humbly accept,” said Mr. Howard. “I have been fortunate to excel in community banking and, in turn, view it as my privilege and duty to help make a difference in those communities.”

Mr. Howard has served as Liberty Bank’s top officer since 2007. Under his leadership the bank has grown to a $3.6 billion institution and has added 14 locations throughout central and southern Connecticut. During this time, Liberty Bank has also acquired two other local banks, giving broader presence in Hartford and New Haven counties. Mr. Howard has led Liberty Bank to back-to-back Top Workplace Awards in 2012 and 2013.

 

Overall, Mr. Howard has nearly four decades of experience in Connecticut’s banking business, previously serving in roles of responsibility at institutions such as: People’s Bank, Fleet Bank, and Bank of America.

 

Mr. Howard currently sits on the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston’s national Community Depository Institutions Advisory Council. He also serves as the first vice chairman of the Connecticut Bankers Association.

 

Mr. Howard most recently stepped down from a year as the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce’s 2012-2013 Chairman. He also served as campaign co-chair of the Middlesex United Way’s 2010 Drive.

 

He sits on the boards of the Travelers Championship, the Goodspeed Opera House, the Greater Hartford Community Foundation, Middlesex Hospital, and VantisLife Insurance Company.

 

In 2012, Mr. Howard was selected for the Executive Choice Award, presented by the MS Society, and for the Middlesex United Way’s Tocqueville Society’s Philanthropy Award in 2011.
