Xavier Students Claim Top Prize at National Aviation Design Competition

Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce congratulates winners, look ahead to this week's high school career fair at Wesleyan.

Last week we had a very successful meeting with U.S. Congressman John Larson, D-CT, introduced by Pratt & Whitney’s President David Hess.

Larson worked tirelessly as the point person in our legislative delegation that was successful in thwarting any attempts to develop an alternative engine that even the Department of Defense said was unneeded and unwanted. Because of this success, it saved the taxpayers billions of dollars.

He also spearheaded the movement to make sure that the Air Force’s Tanker program was developed and produced in the United States by American workers.

Xavier was honored for its Real World Design Challenge national championship, which is an outstanding feat. Both the president of Pratt & Whitney and Larson support academic excellence and higher education.

Mercy High School also recently won the mock trial competition for Connecticut, and students are still competing for national recognition.

We could not have such successes and bring in so many influential leaders without sponsorships and media coverage of our events.

CT-N covers just about every breakfast event and broadcasts them to the entire state. Next month’s breakfast meeting with Coach Geno Auriemma and former UConn standout Tina Charles will be sold out in about two weeks. I would recommend signing up as soon as possible for this very big event.

Last week there was a great Business After Work for 200 members and guests at the Galleria in Middletown, a big manufacturer of marble and granite. Members had the chance to see their equipment used to cut and shape the stone, along with the home design business within the facility.  Jerry Martorelli, Roseann Alwang and Andrea Atkins hosted the event, with appetizers from Illiano’s in Middletown.
