UPDATE: Mattabesett Canoe Club, Harborpark Under Water [With Video]

The Connecticut River rises to 15.41 feet; 7-and-a-half feet over flood stage.

Middletown Patch filmed the Connecticut River waters rising at Harbor Park from early Monday through early Wednesday — when it overflowed its banks at 15.41 feet — greatly above the 8-foot flood stage.

Middletown Fire Marshal Al Santostefano stopped by Monday afternoon to check out the levels. By Tuesday at noon, Middletown police and Fire shut down the park to the public — ordering those gathered under the pavilion to pack their things and leave.

According to Middletown fire, at 14 feet, water will cross from Harbor Park to Maple Street around the area of Maple Place. At 16 feet, there will be flooding on Washington Street around Palmer Field and Bernie O’Rourke Drive.

Because the flooding of the Connecticut River will affect the tributaries that lead into it, the Coginchaug River has flooded a good portion of Palmer Field and Bernie O’Rourke Drive.

City officials want to caution residents about playing in and driving through standing flood water. The water could be calm on the surface but have a strong current below.
