The next Voices in the Bookstore session at R. J. Julia is Friday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. If you're a writer, or aspiring writer, this is a great chance to spend time with a congenial community of writers that gathers at the store to share their work and tell their stories.
Attention all fans of the written word: Madison area writers read from their work: poetry, fiction, essays - all kinds of writers are welcome! If you are a writer, sign up in advance to read from a finished piece or a work-in-progress. If you are a fan of new writing & local authors, come to listen. This event is FREE, click here to reserve your seat!
There will be reading, conversation, and an opportunity to talk with your fellow writers before and afterwards.
Also, either before, or after, wander downstairs to the back of the store and check out the Espresso Book Machine. This is R. J. Julia's on demand book printer. If you're a first time writer, this is a great way to get your book published.
There are a variety of packages available, ranging from "The Simple" which costs $15. For that, your files will be reviewed to make sure they are properly formatted. The files will be uploaded to the EBM. The quanity requested will be printed and then the files will be deleted afterwards. If you want to make more in the future, you can repeat the process.
At the highest end, there is "The 'About To Be A Bestseller'" self-publishing package for $229. For this, you will be provided with a half-hour informational meeting or phone call to discuss your project. The files will be reviewed to make sure they are properly formatted. You will be able to make revisions. Your files will remain on the server. Your work will become available for sale through Espresso Book Machines worldwide. Your work will go on display at R. J. Julia through the Shelves Program. Your work will be discoverable online. You will get a customizable cover design and a discount on interior formatting services.
Not sure which package is right for you? Stop by and talk with Bronwen Blaney, R. J. Julia's Espresso Book Machine consultant. Or she can be reached by phone at 203-245-3959, or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A library or bookstore exists to help readers connect with the books they want, and now, with our Espresso Book Machine (EBM), we're eager to help authors connect their works with others. This is your opportunity to turn your novel, poetry, journal, family history, or even your collection of family recipes, into actual, beautiful, readable objects. The EBM will transform your work into a paperback book complete with a full color cover and a black and white interior, indistinguishable from books produced by traditional publishers.
There are no minimum print runs, so you can print as many or as few copies as you want, when you want. You can even print a work-in-progress, uploading revised files and printing new versions at any time. You can offer your book for sale or keep it private (printable only by you), whichever best suits your project. In the event you do choose to make your book available for sale, you retain all rights to your work, and you set your own retail price.
