Several others made the list: , , Pho Mai and Wang’s in Cromwell, weighing in on those delightfully crispy little cylinders that neatly hold a mouthful of julienned vegetables, meat or seafood tightly rolled and — yes — deep fried. It’s an indulgence surely, but it’s also a resplendent moment of pure bliss.

  • “I enjoy the Great Wall on South Main Street. It's in the same square as Best Cleaners. The people are always pleasant and service is always excellent. No matter what I order, I know that I'm getting top quality food. Egg rolls are just right and I think the General Tsao's chicken is the best around. Give it a try and the service is better than the fast food joints.”
  • And about Thai Gardens, “There I get my 'American' Chinese also. Very nice people work there. Food is consistent and yummy. Me and my friends used to chuckle about how the lady would say, "have nice nights." But then we figured that maybe she’s talking about all of our nights and not just that particular night.”
  • “Thai Gardens spring rolls and plum sauce.”
  • “Typhoon! My husband I love the dumplings and spring rolls. We also love the BYOB policy and quirky owner who occasionally likes to give ‘speeches’ during dinner!”
  • “Our family loves the spring rolls at Thai Gardens with plum sauce.”

Mid-week, we suggested folks remember egg and spring rolls aren’t just limited to Chinese food restaurants, asking, “does Thai Gardens or Typhoon Restaurant make the best spring rolls?” The responses?

  • ‎"Pretty close. ‘I'd hate to have to live on the difference,’" to borrow a phrase from John Wayne in Rio Bravo.”
  • “Pho Mai. I love the others, but the [this one] wins for me.”
  • “I can tell you where to get the best and most scrumptious Crab Rangoons ... that would be Thai Gardens on Main. I'll bet their rolls are as yummy!”
  • And an out-of-town vote: “Wangs on 372 in Cromwell.”
