Pratt & Whitney to Manufacture Quieter Engines in Middletown

The engineering company will be manufacturing PurePower turbofan engines here.

Pratt & Whitney is in competition to create quieter jet engines, and it plans on doing just that — right here in Middletown.

The Hartford Courant reported Tuesday that the company, which is owned by United Technologies, has been perfecting a jet engine that will have a 75-percent reduction in noise.

The article notes that Pratt, which does business all across the world, will be manufacturing some versions of its new engine — called a PurePower engine — at its plant in Middletown.

The news comes just a few months after the company announced it had transformed its assembly area in its Middletown plant to accomodate these new products.
