Hit City's Boutiques, Specialty Shops to Finalize Gift List

Buy local at Middetown's Main Street Market for stocking stuffers and one-of-a-kind presents.

Middletown Patch browsed the city's pedestrian walking mall — Main Street Market — searching for a last-minute gift for our third-grader's schoolteacher this afternoon and was thrilled to find gifts and sales galore.

The mall will be open Saturday, Christmas Eve, for half a day.

Tibetan Bazaar has wool ponchos and shawls, spring dresses and more marked down 50 percent. We picked up a soft-as-cotton mustard yellow shawl to stave off winter's chill.

Fusion Bakery has one-pound holiday cookies festively wrapped up and holiday favorites like gingerbread cake, red velvet cupcakes and chocolate truffles.

The New England Emporium has baskets filled with specialty foods such as local maple syrup, jams, mustards, loose-leaf teas, traditional children's toys, handmade soaps, aprons, wooden bowls and much more.

Echo Trading Company offers unique clothing naturally sourced from around the world, jewelry of all types and staples like wool hats and mittens.

East West Imports, found at the entrance to the mall, is an eclectic mix of belly-dance skirts, richly colored fabrics, curtains and wall coverings, trinkets and purses, incense and more.

It's Only Natural Restaurant sells handmade jewelry, crafts and artwork from local artists and artisans.

Save up your holiday cash and stop by the mall after Christmas, too.
