Indoor Turf Field, Training Space Coming to Middletown This Winter

Coming in December, Advanced SportsPlex is expected to add $750K to city's grand list and create as many as 30 new jobs.

The city will be gaining a large indoor sports training center when the Advanced SportsPlex & Training Center is completed later this year off Route 3, according to Mayor Sebastian N. Giuliano.

Former coaches Gary Sekorski and Glenn Rowland of Rocky Hill will lease the former Mohawk Manufacturing at 1270 Newfield St. and convert it into a 20,000-square-foot indoor turf field and 10,000 square-foot training space.

Last week, Middletown Planning and Zoning approved a three-year partial tax abatement for the facility.

"The redevelopment of Newfield Street has been a primary target for my administration," Giuliano said, "and I am pleased to be able to offer this type of service to the citizens and the general area."

Giuliano said the sportsplex is expected to create as many as 30 full- and part-time jobs.
