Ice Cream Shop Mixes It Up (With Video)

Stop Into Cold Stone Creamery For a Personalized Warm-Weather Treat — Complete With a Smile and a Song

Working the counter at Cold Stone Creamery in Riverview Center, Day McDonald, 20, of Moodus says he's not really a singer. But his a cappella rendition of Adele's "Someone Like You," prompted by a handful of coins placed in the tip jar, might lead you to think differently.

To be a notch above other ice cream parlors is the focus of the franchise and it's especially true of Middetown's Cold Stone, owned since 2006 by Priscilla Harnesk, who regularly holds fundraisers for local causes, including breast and other cancers.

Today McDonald is adding the personal touch, "served with a spoon and a smile," he says, to a Founder's Favorite, a decadent mixture of sweet cream ice cream with brownie, pecans, caramel and fudge sauces. All flavors are made fresh daily, McDonald says, with the sweet cream flavor as a base for all except chocolate.
