How 'Bout A Wiener With Your Cuppa Joe?

Ever since Javapalooza owner Neil Dinerman began featuring overstuffed, oversized hot dogs and kraut, he's been selling out.

Middletown — possibly the most gastronomically diverse Main Street in the state — has a new culinary contender. In the most unlikely of pairings, European-style coffee cafe Javapalooza has introduced gourmet Javadogs.

And they're so popular, owner Neil Dinerman can't keep them in stock.

"We sold out last week. A couple of people came by yesterday saying they were told how great our hot dogs are around town," a beaming Dinerman says. He thinks the popularity of his extra-large Boars Head and Hummel dogs lies in the preparation.

"They're tasty," Dinerman says, who got the idea on a whim and it's taken off, well, like a runaway dog.

Patch couldn't resist a taste. Served with a thatch of warm sauerkraut, the Javadog is so plump and juicy — perfectly grilled — and served on a toasted bun with a side of gourmet slaw and a pickle. We're a little ashamed to say ... that Javadog was gone lickety split.

For those who prefer seafood, Java's got you covered. Also on the menu are fresh lobster rolls — claw and tail meat sauteed in buttery lemon and capers with a sprig of cilantro, served on a butter-grilled hot-dog roll.

Finger-lickin' good.
