Heavy Rains Exacerbate Flooded Harborpark

The Connecticut River in Middletown still exceeds flood stage, nearly a week after Hurricane Irene.

Most folks though the waters of the Connecticut River at Harborpark in Middletown would have receded by now, nearly a week after Hurricane Irene hit.

But the floodwaters still are high — 12.48 feet this morning, according to the National Weather Service, 4.48 feet over flood stage. A clay-like, grayish-green silt covers the entire area — the Mattabessett Canoe Club outer concrete walls and trees are marked how high the waterline reached earlier this week.

Middletown Patch photographed the area as the heavy rains ceased. Here's what we saw.
