Mother Nature looks to be cooperating on the weather front with Wednesday's Motorcycle Mania, which is shaping up to be yet another huge event downtown.
The forecast calls for 75 degrees and partly sunny skies tomorrow for the cruise-in, which runs from 5-9 p.m. Residents should keep in mind that Middletown Police will be closing down Main Street from Union to Washington streets at 3:30 p.m., so drivers are encouraged to keep that in mind and find alternate routes.
In 2012, more than 5,000 motorcycles lined Middletown's Main Street, with 35 vendors and upwards of 10,000 people stopped by to take in the sights and sounds, according to Cathy Duncan of the Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce.
Duncan is certain this year's event will draw more bike and attendees than last year. "I’ve heard from more news media than ever and lots of radio stations are promoting the event across the state. I’ve never seen anything like this!"
This eighth annual event, held in memory of founding sponsor Dan Hunter, featured awards such as vintage bike, functionality with style, sparkling clean and mayor's choice; food, a disc jockey, vendors and downtown restaurant offerings.
The motorcycle entrance fees is $5; $10 to be eligible for one of many awards, ranging from the Vern A. Hunter Vintage Bike Award the Mayor Dan Drew's Choice Award. All proceeds Middletown youth programs.
