Frozen Yogurt Shop Owner's Truck Catches Fire

The blaze began in the engine of a GMC commercial truck owned by the man who will soon open a Cherry Berry at 425 Main Street in Middletown.

A truck engine fire in alleyway behind a new frozen yogurt shop on Main Street tied up traffic briefly Monday morning as Middletown firefighters worked to contain the blaze and keep traffic flowing.

The owner of the soon-to-open Cherry Berry Self-Serve Yogurt Bar at 425 Main Street was unloading items for the store at about 10:30 a.m., which is under renovation, when his GMC commercial truck caught fire, according to Battalion Chief Steve LaRosa, who confirmed the blaze was electrical in nature.

There were no injuries.

As new hires walked into the front entrance of the building for job training on the third floor, they appeared oblivious to firefighters in the alley that faces Washington Street pumping water onto the GMC's front end.
