Vinnie's Adult Tappers Win Accolades at Two Dance Competitions

For the first time, Middletown's Vinnie's Jump & Jive dancers took home awards in several categories.

For the first time, adult tap dancers from Vinnie’s Jump & Jive entered dance competitions this season.

The competition were the Take Center Stage Dance Challenge in New Haven and the Energy Dance Competition in Rockville.

The dancers performed a tap routine to the Broadway Show tune of “One!,”  which had its public debut at Middletown’s second annual Middnight on Main New Year’s Eve celebration.

According to Dance Instructor Lynn Agnew, who teaches tap and jazz at Vinnie's, part of the Community Health Center's Wellness Program, dancers were so dedicated rehearsing for the event, along with purchasing professional costumes, the group decided to take a chance at competing.

In the first competition, the ladies acquired enough points to gain the recognition of a High Gold award, along with a Special Judges’ Award for Best Use of a Prop, referring to using their top hats throughout the routine.

In the second Energy Dance Competition, they were awarded enough points to gain a Platinum award, the highest level dancers can achieve.

They were also presented with a Judges’ Special Award for Personality Plus!

Vinnie’s Jump & Jive is a non-profit dance studio which is under the Community Health Center’s wellness program in Middletown.
