Kids Circus Dazzles Crowd

More than 130 Middletown children spent five weeks honing their juggling, balancing, acrobatics and unicycling skills in a summer arts program that culminated in "The Quest for the Golden Nose."

More than 130 "golden noses" — egg carton cups painted yellow and affixed with black elastic — adorned the faces of just as many city children Friday during the Middletown Children's Circus performance, the culmination of five weeks of intense practice in the arts of juggling, stilting, unicycling, acrobatics and balancing at Macdonough Elementary School.

"We got the nose!" cheered just as many kids as the proverbial curtain closed on "The Quest for the Golden Nose," which was based in part on the ancient Greek myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece.

The summer-long program is sponsored by Oddfellows Playhouse and the Middletown Commission on the Arts — and generously supported by the community with in-kind gifts, donations, skills and time.
