Instrumental Innovators Rumpus! Return for Middletown Music Festival

Sunday's daylong concert at Middlesex Community College includes poetry, dance and creative expression.

Musical improvisors and entrepreneurs Rumpus!, fresh off its run at the city's Taking Back the Park festival last month at Klekolo, returns Sunday for the Middletown Music Festival at Middlesex Community College.

Rumpus! is known for its instrument building, including a PVC vibraphone, drum symbolism and musical expressive development. At the July event, Rumpus! was joined by local hip-hop artist El Vee's beatboxing and freestyle lyrics, 15 drummers and saxophonist Jonas Cain.

According to its website, Rumpus! "provides a fun, free, rhythmic space to be liberated from everyday life. Enter into a natural, tribal, and energetic place where the rhythm takes hold and being part of it becomes second nature. Using elements of the world around us to feel our rhythm, we will be creating a unified sound that will be heard."

This second annual event also features the Michael Cleary Band, Mighty Soul Drivers, Two Virgins, SuperTrance, GiggleJuice, and J-Cherry and the Strawberries. If last year's fete is any indication, this is a must-attend event.
