Interruption of Computer Services at Russell Library

Public computers at Russell Library will be temporarily out of service on Tuesday, December 6, and Wednesday, December 7, 2011.  The partial shutdown is necessary as Library staff install a major software upgrade.  In addition, staff will replace computers in Children's Services.

On Tuesday, December 6, 2011, half of the public computers in the Information Services Department will be available as the other half is being upgraded.  There will be no printing service on December 6 in either the Information Services or Children's Services departments.

On Wednesday, December 7, the first set of upgraded computers in Information Services will be available for public use, and printing service will be operating on those machines.  On that day, the second half of the computers will be upgraded.  On the morning of December 7, computers will not be available in Children's Services as staff members install new PCs there.

By Thursday, December 8, full service will be restored.

The installation of the software upgrade and related public computer shutdown will not affect use of the Library's wireless network.  The wireless network provides Internet access to members of the public who bring their own laptop computers into the building.

The new release updates Russell Library's EnvisionWare software, an application used for reserving public computers and for printing out documents.  Russell Library has 40 computers for use by members of the public.
