George Schuller Trio – Life’s Little Dramas

Life’s Little Dramas (FSNT 368) is the new trio release from Brooklyn drummer, composer, arranger George Schuller, leader of Circle Wide, and a long time veteran of the New York Jazz Scene. Featuring the young and “brilliant” pianist Dan Tepfer and the imaginative and venerable bassist Jeremy Stratton, Schuller set out to document several of his own compositions and arrangements, along with a couple of standards resulting in a rich display of restless creativity and thoughtful re-examinations.

In his own words: “The excuse was that I had written and arranged a few tunes back in the day…nothing too profound, but good enough for a call back. Dusted them off, realigned the dots, tweaked some voicings, and found a couple of like-minded musicians with huge ears and a keen sense of invention. That’s all that one could ask for…an immense amount of gratitude to Dan & Jeremy.”

Dan Tepfer has played with Steve Lacy, Charles MacPherson, and Bob Brookmeyer, while currently performing with Lee Konitz, Mark Turner, and his own trio (w. Thomas Morgan & Ted Poor).
