Wesleyan University's Center for the Arts and Dance Department present Australian dance company Chunky Move featuring the Connecticut premiere of "Connected" (2011). These two performances conclude the university's 12th annual Breaking Ground Dance Series. "Connected" is directed and choreographed by Chunky Move’s Gideon Obarzanek and features a kinetic sculpture by California-based artist Reuben Margolin.
A pre-performance talk with dance scholar Debra Cash will take place on Friday, March 30, at 7:15 p.m. in CFA Hall. Cash is a scholar in residence at both the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and the Bates Dance Festival. She was the dance critic for the Boston Globe for 17 years.
"Connected" animates both the body and the machine through physical connection between the dancers and the kinetic sculpture. Beginning with simple movements and hundreds of tiny pieces, the dancers build their performance while they construct the sculpture in real time.
