Artists to Paint Removable Mural on Middletown Building

A pair of Willimantic muralists, who had brief run-ins with the law and are now embraced for their talent and artistry, will be doing the work.

Two artists who have been garnering attention for their spectacular murals in the Willimantic area are bringing their art to Middletown.

Ben Keller, 21, and Melica Bloom, 20, were once considered delinquents in their hometown of Willimantic because of graffiti-related offenses, but they have now turned that around and are in the business of creating legal murals, The Hartford Courant reported.

Keller and Bloom, who have been commissioned to do several murals in Willimantic, have expanded beyond that city and will eventually be working on a removable mural that will be installed on the former Community Health Center building on the corner of Green and Main streets in Middletown, Hartford Courant reported.

The Passionate Waters Art Installation is a tribute to the vital relationship between humankind and our most precious natural resource — water. The concept for this project came from the "Passionate Waters" a World Water Day celebration of music, poetry, dance, art and activism.

At the unveiling, meet the installation's artists, listen to an engaging talk from Connecticut River Steward Jacqueline Talbot, hear the sounds of water-themed songs, and admire an installation which stands for ecological awareness through art.

The mural will be made up of several boards.

The Portrait of the Town blog has posted many of their pair's murals here. Also, both Keller and Bloom have their own Facebook pages.
