Broadway Actors, Middletown Charity Join Forces for Artists For World Peace 3

The star-studded Artists for World Peace on Broadway 3 promises a brilliant evening in an intimate New York City supper club — and a chance to help destitute women in India.

For the third year, Broadway actors have joined forces with the Middletown group of artists and activists whose mission is to feed the hungry, house the poor, and encourage peace throughout the world.

Fifteen days remain in the Artists for World Peace on Broadway 3 Indiegogo campaign that has reached 33 percent of its goal of $5,500 — the cost for use of the New York City venue. Every performer donates his or her time and talent to support these projects, whose focus this year is "The Year of the Girl."

The proceeds from Artists for World Peace on Broadway 3 at 54 Below, just steps from Times Square, will go toward building a house in India for 50 women who are destitute and homeless, according to founder and jeweler Wendy-Black Nasta of Middletown.

Artists for World Peace on Broadway 3 features dozens of New York stage-seasoned performers whose work ranges from Billy Elliot and Rock of Ages to Wicked and Mamma Mia!

All of the money raised from the Oct. 13 event will go directly toward the creation of safe houses and a chance for education for Indian women and girls who have been forced into the sex trade, according to Black-Nasta.

"Empower the girl so the woman that will be / can lead the next generation with hope and dignity," according to the AFWP YouTube video.

The International Peace Belt arose from the creation of the Euro in 2002, a single currency that eventually replaced 20 monetary exchanges throughout Europe.

As of way of turning out-of-circulation European money into artwork, Black-Nasta envisioned a belt made of coins from Europe and the world, symbolizing the peaceful unity of all nations. With the help of two of her jewelry apprentices and several students, a sterling belt was created with coins and gems representing 115 countries, and a hope that one day all 191 countries will be represented.

Upon its completion in 2003, the International Peace Belt journeyed to India for the Golden Jubilee of World Peace and Harmony.
