Art for Haiti Opening Lures Middletowners to Hartford's Artspace

Paintings by city residents Paul Baldassini and Pierre Sylvain, photographs by David Bauer and world music courtesy of deejay and WESU-FM General Manager Ben Michael made for a vibrant, diversely artistic evening.

The opening of the massive "Art for Haiti" exhibit drew a full house of art lovers to Hartford's grand Artspace Saturday night, with WESU-FM general manager Ben Michael spinning world music, a spectacularly generous cupcake arrangement from Middletown's NoRa Cupcake Co. and many others — all there to support a worthy charity, Movin' With The Spirit.

Middletown and other Connecticut artists whose work is featured through January are: Andria Alex, Paul Baldassini (oil paintings of tractors), David Bauer (photographs of sunsets along the Connecticut River), Andres Chaparro, Robert Charles Hudson, Phil Ouelette, Joyce Senesac and Pierre Sylvain (cubism).

The show runs through Jan. 29 and includes a closing reception Jan. 25 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Artspace Hartford, 555 Asylum Ave., Hartford.
