Summer is the Season for Street Repair

As city, police and Department of Transportation employees prepare for road crew work, one Patch reader gives us a tongue-in-cheek assessment.

Most Middletowners don't know the guy frequently seen fastidiously weeding sidewalk cracks downtown and in the North End, ambling down Main Street with a broom slung over one shoulder in worn jeans, intently leaf-blowing grass clippings.

Klekolo World Coffee philosopher-in-residence, Dr. Freddy H. Carroll, aka Mr. Bums With Brooms, can also be seen drumming at The Buttonwood Tree or recreating local scenes, like those passing time on the front steps of First Church, many cigarettes as props — all bare-bones stick figures.

Here's his take on the idea of "working hard."
