Middletown Woman is Latest Lottery Millionaire

Karol Thompson of Middletown was the lucky Berlin Convenience & Deli customer who purchased a Mega Millions “Quick Pick” for the April 26, 2013 drawing and won $1,000,000 for matching five numbers—the first CT Lottery Mega Millions winner of the year to do so.

The winning Mega Millions numbers drawn on April 26 were 17-42-49-54-55.  Thompson matched the first five numbers drawn, but missed the Mega Ball number, 31. A total of 6,667 winning Mega Millions tickets were sold statewide on that date with values ranging from $2 to $1,000,000 each.

Because Thompson added the Megaplier® feature to her Mega Millions ticket for an extra $1 at the time of purchase, her $250,000 prize was automatically multiplied by four making for an incredible $1,000,000 prize win.  Thompson accepted a prize check at Lottery Headquarters in Rocky Hill for $683,000 (value after taxes).

This was the second millionaire-winning ticket Berlin Convenience & Deli, located at 831 Mill St., in East Berlin, has sold in just four months.

“We’ve had a lot of big winners over the years…$10,000, $50,000, $100,000 and now our second $1,000,000 ticket,” said Naeem Uddin, owner of Berlin Convenience & Deli.  “I guess we’re on a roll,” Uddin said with a laugh.  “We’ll just have to sell another million dollar ticket—maybe next time a Lotto jackpot!”

The store's first $1,000,000 prize winning “Quick Pick” ticket was sold to Richard Sousa of Southington for matching five Powerball numbers in the December 19, 2012 drawing.

A Lottery retailer since 1997, Berlin Convenience & Deli will receive a $2,500 bonus from the CT Lottery for selling the $1,000,000 prize winning ticket.
