Middletown Couple Win $3.8 Million Lotto Prize

Gregory and Glenda Hilt played Quick Pick with the lucky numbers 4, 9, 17, 22, 27 and 35 at Sunoco on Washington Street — taking home a $2,042,000 check.

After CT Lottery’s “Classic Lotto” jackpot rolled to an impressive $3,800,000, Middletown couple, Gregory and Glenda Hilt, compared the game’s winning numbers shown in the morning newspaper to the numbers that appeared on their Lotto “Quick Pick” ticket and discovered an unbelievable and perfect match.

“When I saw that we had six numbers, I started screaming…I couldn’t even get the words out to tell Greg we won,” Glenda told Lottery officials with a laugh.  “He came running in a hurry, thinking something terrible had happened, and then I made him look at the ticket to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating.”

The winning Classic Lotto numbers on Feb. 15 were 4 - 9 - 17 - 22 - 27 - 35.  In total, 9,466 winning Classic Lotto tickets were sold for that date, with prizes ranging from $2 to $3,800,000.

Classic Lotto's jackpot is payable as a 21-year annuity or a one-time cash lump-sum.  Today, the Hilts claimed their jackpot prize at CT Lottery headquarters in Rocky Hill, electing the cash lump-sum of $2,989,527 (before taxes).  Receiving a prize check for $2,041,854 (after taxes), the Hilts talked of buying new cars, planning a family vacation and the possibility of Glenda joining Greg in retirement.

For selling the jackpot winning ticket, Sunoco – A Plus, located at 519 Washington Street in Middletown, will receive a $10,000 bonus from the CT Lottery.

The overall chance of winning a prize in Classic Lotto is 1 in 39.3.  The chance of winning the jackpot is 1 in approximately 7.1 million.
