Getting Real

Liz pursues one of her favorite hobbies -- attending open houses -- and brings us along

Patch alerted you on Friday to two open houses over the weekend. I checked them out on Sunday and thought I'd share what I saw.

88 Meech Rd. is a mid-1950s Cape in the development off Newfield and Westfield streets. It is on a cul de sac, just steps away from Veteran's Park (with its public swimming pool).

The house is perfect starter home for a small family. The kitchen and dining room are open, with lots of light. The hardwood cabinets, with paint and new hardware, will be lovely. The fireplace in the living room works and there is a three-season porch with excellent light. There is a finished basement that can be a fantastic game room for the kids. For only $179,900, the house is a steal.

28 Grove Hill Rd. is a raised-ranch in Westfield, part of a well-established development started in the 1960s. The main floor has an open kitchen, dining room, living room layout that is comfortable for family living. The back porch is my favorite part, as it overlooks a wooded lot and offers a convenient clothes line.

The lower level has a large family room with a bar and wood stove for comfort. There is central air in the house.

Open house season is just warming up!  I'll be back with more house tours soon.
