Flood Watch, Warning in Effect for Hartford County

Guess what else is the forecast? The potential for snow and sleet.

A flood watch is in effect from 8 a.m. Tuesday through 8 a.m. Wednesday for Hartford County and other areas of Connecticut, the National Weather Service reports

But that's not all — there's also high wind and the dreaded "S" words — snow and sleet.

"With the anticipation of widespread rainfall tuesday into Tuesday night of around 1.5 inches combined with a swollen Connecticut river basin due to snow melt from upstream locales across northern New England, there is the potential for minor flooding on area rivers and streams," the NWS stated.

Hartford County's forecast is calling for gusty winds Monday through Wednesday, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Rain and possible thunderstorms are slated to arrive Tuesday afternoon and early Wednesday morning, there's a chance of rain, snow and sleet. Little to no snow accumulation is expected, but temperatures will be below freezing.

Wednesday will be sunny and breezy, with a high near 45, according to the NWS.

Tips for Safety

Don't let children play near streams and other watercourses due to potentially swift-moving water.

Every year, people try to drive on flooded roadways. The depth isn't always obvious so don't attempt it!
