Durham Mom Gives Birth to State's First New Year's Baby

Kelly Johnson and her husband, Edward, welcomed Seth Edward Johnson into the world at 12:06 a.m. at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

A Durham family is celebrating the birth of Connecticut's first baby of 2013.

Seth Edward Johnson was born just six minutes after midnight on Tuesday at Yale-New Haven Hospital. He weighed 8 pounds and measured 20.5 inches.

"Very unexpected! It was a very long labor (15 hours), which we also didn't expect with this being my second child, so all the attention is crazy," said mom Kelly Johnson.

"But we are very excited though, its a great birthday to have," she said.

Kelly and her husband, Edward, celebrated the New Year's gift with their daughter, Emma, 4, who was equally as excited.

"She is in love with her baby brother," Kelly said.
