Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center Hosting Lung Cancer Vigil

The event will also feature keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Crain, Middlesex Hospital radiologist and guest speakers will be Dr. Jonathan Blancaflor, Middlesex Hospital surgeon and Dr. Miklos Fogarasi, Middlesex Hospital oncologist.

The Middlesex Hospital Cancer Center will host a special vigil to bring awareness to lung cancer, honor those who have the disease and remember those who have lost their lives to it.

The vigil will take place on Thursday, November 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the atrium of the Cancer Center at 536 Saybrook Road in Middletown. 

The event is free and open to the community and is being held in conjunction with the Lung Cancer Alliance. It is one of many similar events taking place as part of the National Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigil program.

Special guest at the event will be 17-year-old, Nicholas Sowa, of Middletown, a local amateur stock car racer, who races his car in honor of his mother, who is living with lung cancer. Nicholas will be racing in the 2014 season in a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Late Model at Waterford Speedbowl. Nicholas’ car will be on display at the entrance to the Cancer Center during the event.

The event will also feature keynote speaker, Dr. Michael Crain, Middlesex Hospital radiologist and guest speakers will be Dr. Jonathan Blancaflor, Middlesex Hospital surgeon and Dr. Miklos Fogarasi, Middlesex Hospital oncologist. A lung cancer survivor will also address the group and the Sanctuary and Bells Choirs of Branford First Congregational Church will perform. Everyone in attendance will be given a glow stick that will be lighted after a moment of silence is observed.
