A Video Tour of the New England Civil War Museum in Vernon

From 2011-2015, America is marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

Open house day recently at The New England Civil War Museum in Vernon was very well-received.

The museum is maintained and operated by Alden Skinner Camp 45, Sons of Union Veterans. It is located in the fully preserved Civil War-era Grand Army of the Republic Hall on the second floor of the Vernon Town Hall, 14 Park Place. The building's cornerstone is actually on the second floor to commemorate the hall.

It is the longest continuously used Grand Army of the Republic Hall in the United States. The museum is dedicated to preserving the memory and lessons of the Civil War. It offers an education outreach program that seeks to educate youth and adults. In addition, the museum staff collects and preserves documents and other materials pertaining to the history of the Civil War.

The museum is open on the second and fourth Sundays of each month from noon to 3 p.m.
