5,000 Plus Revelers Clock in at Middnight on Main

Middletown's first New Year's Eve celebration was a rousing success.

Those of us who call Middletown home were thrilled to see the city celebrate New Year's eve with a bang. It was a point of pride to see draw 6,500 folks to Middletown Saturday with 100 performances and activities, gourmet food, spectacular fireworks and a one-night-only Three's Company art gallery show.

By 6 p.m., organizer Lucy McMillan said every one of the 6,500 Middnight on Main buttons was sold out.

Patricia Kantrowitz of at Riverview Plaza set a personal goal to exceed the store's $1,000 profit from last December by selling Haitian art to revelers. She came within $20 of doing so.

Thanks to the organizers and dozens of volunteers who worked so hard to bring Middnight on Main to fruition and let's raise a proverbial glass to making this the first of many enormously successful New Year's Eve celebrations in Middletown.
