MxCC Students Honored at Annual All-Connecticut Academic Team Awards Ceremony

MxCC students Lisa Gangone and Michael Vessichio were among 16 outstanding students that were honored last Friday at the State Capitol during the annual All-Connecticut Academic Team awards ceremony. The All-Connecticut Academic Team recognizes the outstanding scholarly achievements and leadership accomplishments of students enrolled in Connecticut’s community and junior colleges. The students chosen for the state team also represented the State of Connecticut in the All-USA Academic Team Competition. Gangone and Vessichio are both members of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society at MxCC. Both students are business administration majors and were nominated by Professor Patty Raymond. “These students represent some of the best and brightest across our community college campuses, and they should be congratulated for their hard work, commitment and perseverance,” said David Levinson, Vice President for Community Colleges at the Board of Regents and President of Norwalk Community College. “Learning more about each of these students – including what they plan to do after graduation from community college – is inspirational and helps to ensure our focus remains on supporting the success of our students.” The ceremony was sponsored by Northwestern Connecticut Community College, the Board of Regents for Higher Education and Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society of two-year colleges. Founded in 1966, Middlesex Community College (mxcc.edu) is part of the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities System. In all it does, Middlesex Community College strives to be the college of its community. By providing high quality, affordable, and accessible education to a diverse population, the college enhances the strengths of individuals through degree, certificate, and lifelong learning programs that lead to university transfer, employment, and an enriched awareness of our shared responsibilities as global citizens. MxCC, recently named a "Great College to Work For" by The Chronicle of Higher Education, offers more than 50 degree or certificate programs at the main 38-acre campus in Middletown, the downtown Meriden Center, and online.
