MxCC Professor Pens Historical Fiction Book on Cuban Revolution

Victor A. Triay, Ph.D., professor of history at Middlesex Community College, has seen a dream come to life on paper.  This month, Professor Triay released his first historical fiction novel, The Struggle Begins. The book is the first installment in The Unbroken Circle series.

Professor Triay was born in Miami to Cuban exile parents. For over twenty-one years, he has been a professor of history at Middlesex. While Professor Triay’s classroom work focuses on United States history, western civilization, world civilization, and 20th century Europe, he has earned a broader reputation as an expert in Cuban exile history. His parents left Cuba less than two years after the rise of Fidel Castro, so the subject is personal to him and has inspired him to devote his time towards researching, writing, and lecturing on the topic.  He has published three academic, non-fiction books on Cuban exile history, one of which, Bay of Pigs: An Oral History of Brigade 2506, won the Samuel Proctor Oral History Prize in 2001.“Writing a fictional work on the period of the Cuban Revolution has been a dream of mine for over twenty years,” said Professor Triay.

The Unbroken Circle
series is the story of the fictional León family, whose peaceful, middle class existence is swept suddenly into a tempest of warfare, betrayal, and separation during the early years of the Cuban Revolution.  In “The Struggle Begins,” Goyo León, a devoted teacher and family man, is recruited into the anti-Castro underground after his father is killed at the hands of Castro’s henchmen. Unbeknownst to Goyo, his young cousins have also secretly joined the anti-Communist resistance. With the three cousins becoming more deeply involved in the pro-democracy struggle every day, tensions rise as the stakes for their homeland reach an all-time high.

The Struggle Begins is available for purchase on Amazon.  The second installment, Freedom Betrayed, is slated for release later this year.
