Goodspeed Announces Home Run Season!

Two-time Tony Award-winning Goodspeed Musicals, continues its tradition of producing exceptional, Broadway caliber musicals in 2014 with a triple play that’s sure to thrill theatergoers:  the devilishly funny Damn Yankees  - with a Fenway twist  - will run from April 11 – June 21; the uplifting and joyous Fiddler on the Roof  will run from June 27 – September 7; and the World Premiere musical based on the classic film from Universal Pictures, Irving Berlin’sHoliday Inn will run from September 19 – November 30, 2014.

            Damn Yankees has Words and Music by Richard Adler  and Jerry Ross, and Book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop. It is based on the novel “The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant” by Douglass Wallop with book adaptation for The Red Sox Version by two-time Tony-Award winner Joe DiPietro (Best Book and Lyrics for Memphis; Goodspeed’s They All LaughedBabes in ArmsAll Shook Up and more). Damn Yankees will be directed by Daniel Goldstein who helmed the 2013 summertime hit Hello, Dolly!  

            Fiddler on the Roof features Music by Jerry Bock, Lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, Book by Joseph Stein which is based onSholem Aleichem stories by special permission of Arnold Perl.  Fiddler on the Roof will be directed by Rob Ruggiero who is well known to Goodspeed audiences for such hits as CarouselShow BoatCamelot1776 and the current production of The Most Happy Fella.

            Irving Berlin’s Holiday Inn features Music and Lyrics by Irving Berlin with Book by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge. This heart-warming holiday treasure which features such timeless hits as “Happy Holiday” and “Easter Parade” will be directed by Gordon Greenberg who has directed numerous Goodspeed productions including Happy Days, and Pirates of Penzance at the Goodspeed Opera House; The Fabulous Lipitones, and The Baker’s Wife at The Norma Terris Theatre; and in New York, the Drama-Desk Award winning production of Working.   Chad Hodge created several television series including NBC’s “The Playboy Club” and the upcoming FOX series “Wayward Pines.” 

The World Premiere musical Holiday Inn, based on the Academy Award-winning filmis produced in association with Universal Stage Productions and by arrangement with The Irving Berlin Music Company. Universal Stage Productions is the live theatre division of the world-famous motion picture studio which has produced such Broadway hits as WickedBilly ElliotBring It On, the recent award-winning revival of The Gershwins’ Porgy and Bess and many more.

Advance season subscriptions are now on sale through the Box Office (860.873.8668), open seven days a week. Subscription prices range from $81 - $219 at the Goodspeed Opera House for one person, all three shows. Single tickets go on public sale beginning February 16, 2014.

Dedicated to the preservation and advancement of musical theatre, Goodspeed Musicals produces three musicals each season at the Goodspeed Opera House in East Haddam, Conn., and additional productions at The Norma Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn., which was opened in 1984 for the development of new musicals.  The first regional theatre to receive two Tony Awards (for outstanding achievement), Goodspeed also maintains The Scherer Library of Musical Theatre and The Max Showalter Center for Education in Musical Theatre. Goodspeed is supported in part by the Department of Economic and Community Development with support from the Connecticut Office of the Arts.
