Dave Downs Music at BrewBakers, The Ladybug Boutique and Harvest Fest

You’ll find the video to my little song, “Heart of Middletown” on You Tube.  (And surely I’m not the only one who feels this little ditty should be our fair City’s Official Song, am I?  Or am I?)  Verse Three of “Heart of Middletown” briefly mentions a joint down the south end of Main Street, Middletown, Connecticut, that I’ve long been quite fond of.  BrewBakers, at 169 Main, has everything going for it!:  The food is delicious (prepared by world-renowned Chef, Joseph); the service is divine (and good lookin’); the ambiance is Euro-cool;  Eloise- your Host- is lovely and lots of fun; and Giovanna, well, Giovanna’s just plain awesome.

And then there’s me and my guitar, this coming Sunday morning (10/6), starting around 10:00 a.m., and every First Sunday of the Month thereafter.  While you’re enjoying your eclectic BrewBaker omelet, or your Joseph Burger (!) or your Chilled Gazpacho or Pastrami Panini, or maybe just a delicious, piping hot Cup o’ Joe, I’ll be serving up acoustic renderings of Ink Spots, Bing Crosby, Fats Waller and Mills Brothers songs, along with originals, as well; like “Heart of Middletown,” for example.

Right up the road from BrewBakers is a cool joint of a different sort.  The Ladybug Boutique is a “Mom-run store” hidden down the alleyway of 122 College Street.  It’s home to all sorts of country, primitive and seasonal home décor and hard-to-find items that’ll accentuate the positive vibes of your own joint, whatever or wherever it may be.  My buddy, Owner/Operator Amy lends the place out to special events for worthy causes.  Saturday, October 19th at around 1:30 p.m., for instance, I’ll be serenading outside the Ladybug as part of a fund-raiser for the goPINK Project, which benefits Middlesex Hospital’s Cancer Center and Comprehensive Breast Center.  Amy will donate 15% of her Boutique’s sales from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. on that beautiful autumnal day.

Then, on the morning of October 26th, I’ll hop over the Arigoni Bridge and head east on Route 66 into unassuming East Hampton, CT.  Once there, Diane Kozikowski & I- aka The Rust’d Keys- will be performing our unique Nouveau Croon style of music at Harvest Fest2013, in East Hampton’s cozy Village Center.  It’s a humble little affair with lots of kid-friendly stuff to do, and the street’s lined with vendors selling casual delicacies like local honey, vegetables, chowder, fritters and what-not.  The Rust’d Keys will share the stage with some of the area’s best and most interesting musical acts.  Hopefully Nina Romanenkov, Gigglejuice, Amity and the rest will all be there.  Diane and I will cover everyone from Johnny Mercer to Rosemary Clooney to Fleetwood Mac to Patty Griffin, and originals will include “Moonshine,” which was our closing number at The Durham Fair this past weekend.

We’re having such a lovely October.  So unplug and come on out.  A little Dave Downs Music can only make things lovelier.
