Goody-Packed Purse Auction Aids Women in Need: Tickets Going Fast!

The Women’s Initiative is holding its fourth annual “Power of the Purse” silent auction at Baci Grill in Cromwell on Thursday, June 28th at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and include hearty hors d’oeuvres and live music. Call United Way at 860-346-8695 to purchase tickets in advance. They may also be purchased at the door.

The silent auction features brand new purses, handbags, tote bags, gym bags and a variety of other carryalls packed with themed items inside. There are themed purses and items for every price range including: golf outing at Lyman Orchards, movie night, gardening, a day at the beach, free yoga sessions, "the patch.com" purse, concert tickets, restaurant gift cards, Silpada jewelry, tickets to the Garde Arts Center in New London, and “treat yourself” spa items. All proceeds from the event will benefit the work of the WI to strengthen the lives of women and children.

In conjunction with the event, the WI is running a drive to collect toiletries and “gently used” purses. All donations to this drive will be distributed to programs in Middlesex County helping women get back on their feet. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations:

  • “Power of the Purse” event on June 28, 5:30 p.m. at Baci Grill, Cromwell;
  • Middlesex United Way, 100 Riverview Center, Suite 230, Middletown;
  • Tina’s Fine Lingerie, 349 Main Street, Middletown; and
  • A Style Above Designs, 159D Main Street, Chester.

 

The WI is a group of caring women of all ages and backgrounds who are dedicated to strengthening the lives of women and children. Through education, advocacy, and leadership the WI provides an opportunity for women to invest their volunteer time and talents to help in three focus areas: early childhood development; empowering young women; and financial stability.

The WI hosts a bimonthly women’s networking breakfast and an annual free financial literacy workshop. They also distribute small, one-time grants to nonprofit groups that fit into one or more of its focus areas, strive to increase participation of women in volunteering, and run drives to collect books, toiletries, and “gently used” purses.
