Local Students Honored at CAS Banquet

Local students, Shanya Wyatt and Zachary Fitzner, were honored as outstanding scholar-leaders from Woodrow Wilson Middle School.  They were among 290 scholar leaders from 145 middle schools honored at a banquet on June 4, 2012 at the Aqua Turf club in Southington.The award honors one girl and one boy in each Connecticut middle school whose record of academic achievement and service is truly exemplary, whose personal standards and accomplishments are models for others and who possess high levels of integrity, self discipline, honesty and courage.Distinguished educator Jeff LaRoux, the president-elect of the Association for Middle Level Education was the keynote speaker for the event, and the master of ceremonies was Scott Gray from WTIC News Talk 1080.The Connecticut Association of Schools and McDonald's Owner Operators of Connecticut sponsored the banquet, with 1430 students, parents and educators in attendance.
