Bethlehem Man Dies When Dump Truck Hit Jag Driven By Woman, 92

The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. on Tuesday off Route 66 in Middletown and took the life of 53-year-old Charles Marshall.

Update 9:55 p.m.

On Tuesday at 1:39 p.m., a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred in the area of 955 Washington Street. Middletown and State Police were still processing the scene late into Tuesday evening.

The  investigation indicates that a 2001 Kenworth dump truck driven by Charles Marshall, 53, of Bethlehem, was traveling east on Washington Street, when a 2002 Jaguar x-type, driven by Jane Opalacz, 92, of Middletown, was traveling north on Camp Street and crossed Washington Street.

The Kenworth dump truck and Jaguar collided. The dump truck traveled off the road, and came to rest on its left side down an embankment.

Opalacz was uninjured, however, Marshall was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is continuing, witnesses to the collision are asked to contact Officer David Godwin of the Traffic Unit (860) 344-3264.

Police and firefighters are on the scene of a deadly crash along Washington Street (Route 66) in Middletown involving a sedan and a dump truck.

The accident happened around 1:45 p.m. near Camp Street, close to the Goodwill Store.

The impact of the crash caused the dump truck to roll over onto it's side and the occupant of the truck was pinned underneath the vehicle.

At least one person has died, according to police.

Traffic is backed up in both directions and drivers are being rerouted. Motorists should avoid the area.
