PD: Intoxicated Bloods Member Arrested For Refusing to Show ID

Three Middletown Police called to the scene of a large disturbance on Stoneycrest Drive recognized six gang members — one of which challenged them.

A 25-year-old street gang member is facing an interfering charge after Middletown Police say he refused to comply with their request for identification.

On Aug. 30 at 9:31 p.m., police were called to Stoneycrest Drive on the report of 8-10 males fighting, the area where officers have been called several times in August, the report says.

The officers recognized two Bloods street gang members immediately, the report indicates, "a notoriously violent street gang involved in selling narcotics … and enforce their territories with violence."

Four other gang members were found around the corner, the report says, with one on parole for a shooting in Middletown. Three officers told the six men to sit down and show their hands, to which, the report says, all but one responded.

Shylan Young, 25, of Stoneycrest Drive refused to show his identification, police report, then threw it on the ground. He was "defiant," the report says, and refused to step off the stoop, then resisted arrest, and fell to the ground, while "extremely intoxicated," smelling of alcohol and eyes bloodshot and watery.

Young yelled at the officer, saying it wasn't illegal to drink outside, the report says.

Young was charged with interfering with an officer and failure to comply with fingerprinting. His record shows two convictions, according to the Connecticut Judicial website, for posession of less than 4 ounces of marijuana in April and July 2010.
