Cops: Man Driving Friend to Buy Crack Crashes Car on Green

Middletown Police report the following arrests.

Middletown Police report the following arrests:

OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE, TRAVELING UNREASONABLY FAST, FAILURE TO DISPLAY PLATES — On Sept. 22 at 12:20 a.m., Stephen A. Hill, 41, of Cynthia Lane was driving a Nissan on Main Street approaching the Arrigoni Bridge without a front plate. He was going 50 mph in a 25 mph zone. Police saw a blue pill on the floorboard, later determined to be a Tic-Tac breath mint.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT, THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT, SECOND-DEGREE STRANGULATION — On Sept. 21, Alexis Ortiz, 25, of Rose Circle was arguing with his live-in girlfriend Tyesha Lumpkin, 25, of Rose Circle over her not including him in her college graduation acceptance speech — he said he made several sacrifices for her to gain the achievement. She said Ortiz believed she was contacting other males by phone and was unfaithful. She said while she was in the shower she found him texting people on her phone. She slapped him in the face and his glasses flew off; she said he punched her in the face, leg and head and scratched her arm. He was found with an active warrant out of Hartford. Lumpkin was arrested for third-degree assault and disorderly; Ortiz for the above.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT — On Sept. 20 at 1:46 a.m., Pamela R. Barber, 47, of Westridge Lane said her final divorce paperwork came through Sept. 15 and her ex-spouse Adelita Martinez, 45, had 30 days to vacate the home. Barber said she sleeps on the couch nightly until Martinez leaves. At 1:20 a.m., Barber awoke to find Martinez pleading with her to allow her to live there, and hitting her on the arms multiple times. Martinez said she found Barber wasn’t in bed when she awoke, found her on the couch and pleaded with her not to close their joint account because a Social Security check was coming through. Barber became verbally aggressive, punched Martinez in the cheek ad scratched her arms and hands. Both were arrested.

THIRD-DEGREE BURGLARY, VIOLATION PROTECTIVE ORDER, FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH FINGERPRINTS — On Sept. 19 at 2:32 p.m., Silvana C. Gerrish, 31, of Rook Road, Cromwell, was found sleeping on her uncle’s couch after throwing a brick through his kitchen window on Green Street. She said she did nothing wrong and asked officers not to arrest her. During booking, she refused to be processed and fought with officers.

SECOND-DEGREE TRESPASS — On Sept. 19 at 5:29 a.m., a victim on Liberty Street said Christopher Christensen, 28, of Burgundy Hill Road had entered the apartment while he was sleeping. He awoke to find Christensen standing in the doorway looking confused and intoxicated. He pushed him on the balcony and he left the building. Christensen said he was visiting friends, had gone outside and returned to the wrong apartment.

OPERATING UNREGISTERED MOTOR VEHICLE, IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM,  DRIVING WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE — On Sept. 18 at 10:15 p.m., Luis A. Colon, 23, of Woodbury Circle was driving a Ford on Main Street when the plate came back belonging to a Subaru.

EVADING RESPONSIBILITY, RECKLESS DRIVING, DUI, USE MOTOR VEHICLE WITHOUT PERMISSION, FAILURE TO TAKE BREATH TEST — On Sept. 17 at 12:37 p.m., Eugene Trudeau, 49, of Spring Street was in a car accident on Pleasant Street while driving an old Ford. A witness said Trudeau drove over the curb and hit a tree on the South Green near Broad and Church streets; then drove off. The Ford was found parked on Lincoln Street. The passenger was there and said Trudeau nearly hit an old lady when backing off the South Green. The passenger smelled beer on Trudeau’s breath. The owner said her boyfriend was driving. Trudeau was found and refused to take a sobriety test. While being processed, Trudeau was slurring his words and officers smelled alcohol. He said he has a problem with alcohol and drugs and drank a 12-pack of beer before driving. He said he was driving his friend to Flower Street to buy $20 worth of crack. He said the friend told him not to drive.

POSSESSION NARCOTICS — On Sept. 16, Khaval D. McDonald, 20, of Spring Street drove his Honda through the stop sign at Berlin and Liberty streets. Officers noticed his rear plate was not lit. Officers found a 2.5-gram marijuana roach in a mint box and a ziplock bag with 2 grams red powder, which tested as morphine. McDonald said it is a crushed up ecstasy pill he found on the ground then crushed.

THIRD-DEGREE ASSAULT — On Sept. 13 at 7:53 p.m., Cordney J. Flood, 19, of Inverness Lane was in a large crowd of people outside after fighting with a female “youthful offender.” The youth confirmed Flood had assaulted her and was brought to Middlesex Hospital for injuries. Flood said she was coming home from school when she saw the youth outside Maplewood Terrace. They have a history of drama and don’t like each other. The youth and she began to fight and fell to the ground; the youth had Flood by the mouth most of the time. The youth said she saw Flood walking with her ex-boyfriend and Flood punched her in the face then they began fighting. The girl said she had pain in her face, kidneys and hands from punching Flood back. The youth was arrested for breach of peace; Flood for the above.

ILLEGALLY OPERATING MOTOR VEHICLE UNDER INFLUENCE, SECOND OFFENSE; TRAVELING AT UNREASONABLE SPEED — On Sept. 13 at 12:29 p.m. Steven Pitka, 48, of Camp Street was involved in a car crash at Washington Street and Veteran’s Way. Police smelled alcohol on his breath and his speech was slurred. He said he had a 16-ounce beer that morning. He failed a sobriety test. The breathalyzer said Pitka had a blood-alcohol level of .045 and .042 percent.

FIRST-DEGREE CRIMINAL TRESPASS, NON-STUDENT POSSESSING DRUG PARAPHERNALIA NEAR SCHOOL — On Sept. 12 at 2:23 p.m., the owner of an apartment on Pearl Street said Rachel F. Larkin, 29, of no certain address was on the property. She fled and was found on Ferry Street. She said she was using an empty apartment in the building for prostitution. She has been arrested for abusing crack, heroin and marijuana. She was found with a crack pipe.

FAILURE TO WEAR SEATBELT, OPERATING UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, AND WITH SUSPENDED LICENSE — On Sept. 11, Richard P. Smazer, 45, of Main Street, Portland, was driving on Spring Street without a seatbelt.

INTERFERING WITH OFFICER, ENGAGING POLICE IN PURSUIT, RECKLESS DRIVING, OPERATING UNDER SUSPENSION IMPROPER USE MARKER PLATE, INSURANCE FAILS MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS, OPERATING UNREGISTERED VEHICLE, STOP SIGN VIOLATION — On Sept. 9 at 7:01 p.m., Calvin L. Vaughn, 28, of High Street was driving a Nissan on Washington Street after police were looking for New Britain shooting suspects driving the same car. Vaughn pulled onto Boston Road, then began speeding, blasted through the Boston and George Street intersection and hit a curb. When asked to leave the car Vaughn did not comply so the K-9 bit him on the thigh.
